Using AML Flash

These instructions are for tablets with the QM screen. Please check your tablet type before proceeding any further. Your tablet type will be available as the the last two letters of the Build Name in Settings -> About Tablet. It will end in either TM, QM or numbers. If your Build ends in 'TM' do not attempt this update. When a TM update is available, this document will be updated.


Preparing the PC

  1. Download AML_Flash.zip (Many thanks to fards for the 64 bit drivers!)
  2. Unzip the archive (I have mine in d:\android\tools\AML_Flash\)
  3. In control panel, open Device Manager
  4. With your tablet turned off, connect it to the PC via USB cable.
  5. Press and hold the power and home buttons
  6. When a new device (M3) shows up, right click to get its properties
  7. Select Update Driver and browse to the location of the AML Flash Tool
  8. Select the AmlogicusbBurningdriver folder and let the driver update

Still no tablet device!

  1. Turn off the tablet
  2. Start the AML Flash tool
  3. Import the Upgrade File (The zip file with AMLF in the name.)
  4. Click Start
  5. With the tablet off, connect the usb cable
  6. Press power and volume down (like going into recovery)
  7. The tablet should start going into recovery but stop at fastboot/bootloader because of the active AML flash application.
  8. Now, the device M3 should show up.
  9. Select Update Driver and browse to the location of the AML Flash Tool
  10. Select the AmlogicusbBurningdriver folder and let the driver update

Preparing the Update

  1. Download an AMLF update, like the official Fire/Flame 0921 firmware.

Flashing the Update

  1. Start AML Flash, you should see the application shown on the right.
  2. If your app is in Chinese, click on the right most menu item and select 'Change Language'
  3. From the 'Config' menu, select 'Import Upgrade File' and select the AMLF file you either downloaded or created.
  4. With your tablet turned off, connect it to your PC via the USB cable.
  5. Press and hold power and home until the green android shows up, and then release.
  6. One of the ports should light up and show as being active.
  7. Press 'Start'
  8. Wait 5 minutes and the light turns from blue to green, and the log says 'Done!'

My Update is Stuck!

If your update is stuck at a CRC check, you can still proceed.

  1. Unzip the AMLF file
  2. Copy the zips (update_qimei and patch_ainol_e4) to your TF
  3. Boot into recovery
  4. Flash normally, first update_qimei and then patch_ainol_e4
  5. Reboot and bring back to fastboot
  6. Restart the flash process

Completing and Rebooting

  1. Once the update is done, click 'Stop' to gtracefully end the fastboot/bootloader flash process.
  2. Unplug the tablet
  3. If the tablet has not started rebooting itself, exit fastboot by pressing power and home again, turn it off and reboot it.
  4. Enjoy your new firmware!
